The Natural

The use of greenery on a large scale can make a HUGE impact.  It is classy and sophisticated, and sends a message to the guests that this part is about something natural and honest.

Follow this link to see pics are from Installation Floral's shoot for D Weddings Spring Book 2009.   Nature's Best

Although the subject matter in these shoots is totally editorial in nature, they are still representative of the elegant and timeless combination of hydrangeas, roses, cotton and birchwood.  Cotton is something that all of us Texan's have in our heritage - at least by association :) This shoot could easily translate into neat little pave's for an outdoor party at the Arboretum or just easily could be used in a small town meeting hall.

  1. I love the feel of pretty much everything on this post. The wreath is beautiful and I love the use of leaves and berries instead of only flowers.

I do think the second picture is a little too grand, not really my taste for the reception. I want things to be cozy. :)

  2. I love the picture over the title "Southern Comfort" on the D Weddings photo shoot. I wouldn't do the apples, but I really like the look of the floral arrangement-- long stemmed "wildflower-ish" flowers, long grasses, etc. Also, as I've already said, I really like the herbs. How do you think something like this would look, in terms of the herbs in between nearly every place setting, prior to the meal? We are planning on having a buffet and so the plates and table settings will be at the buffet table, not at the dinner table.

  3. I don't care for the modern looking photo. Just not my style.

The last photo shoot (with the cotton) is beautiful. I think it is a little bit too rustic for the occasion; I was thinking less stable-ish and more garden-ish. That said, the browns and whites really appeal to me, and I think they would be even more beautiful with a little green added in. I am also definitely not opposed to somehow lighting the tables, with candles or otherwise. By the time the guests sit down to eat, the sun will most likely be beginning to set.

  4. What if we were to use two wreaths and hung them on the back of the bride/groom's chairs at the reception instead of doing centerpieces on the head table. It makes for super cute sweetheart photos and we could even pin black and white pics from your childhood onto the wreath!

  5. I think the second picture is awesome. It is a little large, but if we scaled this down a bit then I think it could work in the right direction.

As far as the Nature's Best pics go - we can definitely use the aluminum pails if you like them. They are available in three different sizes. There are also some interesting bark covered containers that look like your arrangements are springing out of split logs.

The rustic/barn shoot is a little bit over the top but the whites/browns (especially with the pheasant feathers added) is really stunning in person. Using fresh herbs mixed in and trading some of the white for green would be killer!

  6. Lighting:

Lighting at the arboretum can be tricky. They have a 4 tea light per table rule. We can use some LED lights or electric candles. I'm not sure if they allow for external lighting sources to be brought in - but if I recall they do not -

I can speak with Kathryn or Sheila and find out more about this.

In the past we were able to use floating candles with lights as long as the wick was at least 1/2 way down the cylinder.
